Obituary

Robin Carney

Robin Carney passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday March 24th, 2019 at the youthful age of 66 after continually defying all odds given by her doctors.

She was predeceased by her mother, Irene.  She is survived by her husband, John, her daughters Jamie and Stacey, her sister Linda and her brother Barry.  She also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren, Kira, Shane and Alyssa, as well as her loyal friend of 50+ years, Peggy.

Never one to let hard work deter her from her goals, she worked a full-time job while pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing and raising two small children.  Not content to do the same thing for an extended period of time, she constantly broadened her skills to explore many different facets of nursing, including working in a hospital Critical Care unit, medical equipment use and instruction , and, most recently, hospital discharge planning for Amerihealth.

Robin was an adventurer.  There were many roads to roam and she took the time to enthusiastically explore all of them.  When she wasn't off traveling the world, she could be found taking in local arts and culture, or participating in classes to cultivate her variety of interests, from reiki to painting to kayaking and beyond.  An avid gardener, her yard provided refuge and food for a variety of birds and other local wildlife.

Her love of travel and the arts may have only been eclipsed by her love of bargain hunting and her extensive shoe collection, often a cleverly orchestrated combination of the two.  Robin never spent a dime before conducting thorough research and she always knew how to get the most for her money. Many of her travel plans were designed with outlet shopping as a side mission.

She was a master of organization with an undeniable talent for repurposing.  She could look at any object and create three new uses for it.  That creativity as well as her artistic flair served her well from the sponge-painted and stenciled walls of her home to the artwork that graced its walls.

Robin will be remembered for demonstrating and inspiring fierce loyalty to family and friends.  When crossed or when loved ones were threatened, she transformed into a force to be reckoned with.  She was a lifelong animal rescuer, from the kitten she saved from being stuffed into a coffee can by neighborhood children, to the "foster fail" dog she knew would otherwise be unadoptable, to the many shelter pets that were fortunate enough to come across her path over the years.  In that spirit, please feel free to make a donation to the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ in her name.

Her philosophy is best summed up by a plaque in her office: "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming, "Wow, what a ride!!'
