Obituary

Robert E. "Bob" Ford Jr.

October 7, 1948 – October 22, 2024

Robert E. "Bob" Ford Jr., 76 of Galloway Twp. New Jersey; born on October 7, 1948, passed away on October 22, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Leukemia. Born and raised in Union County, Bob grew up in a proud Irish Catholic working-class family. He attended St. Leo University before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served two combat tours during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a decorated Staff Sergeant.

In the early 1980's, Bob moved to South Jersey, where he continued his life of service as a Special Agent with the Federal Government.  During his career he served as an acting Special Agent in Charge, and after the events of 9/11 volunteered for an assignment as an Air Marshall. Following his retirement, Bob remained committed to the military community, serving as a liaison between the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9462 and local schools and colleges. He dedicated much of his time to supporting veterans and active-duty service members.

Bob was an active and beloved member of VFW Post 9462, where he held various roles and contributed countless hours. Known for his warmth and his service to others, Bob made a lasting impact on everyone he met. If you knew Bob, you knew he was a good listener, but an even better talker! He loved being in the sun, golfing, spending time with his German Shepherds, and indulging in his passions for reading and writing.

Bob will be greeted by his parents, Robert and Vivian, and sister, Mary Ellen, in Heaven. He is survived by his brother, Patrick (PJ) and sisters Elaine, Eileen (Barbara), and Elizabeth (Nicolas). He also leaves behind his daughter, Brittany Welsh (Kevin), and stepson Christopher Rizzo. Bob will be deeply missed by his six grandchildren: Katelyn, Julia, Jackson, Shane, Declan, and Toryn.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, nurses, and aides from Meadowview Nursing Home and the Bayada team for their compassion and care throughout the past year.

A private service will be held in Bob's honor. He will be laid to rest alongside his fellow soldiers; details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the VFW Post 9462 in Bob's memory.
