Obituary

Robert P Carbone, 67, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2022.

Loving father of Candice Carbone (Andrew Bainbridge), Christie Carbone, and Brittney Carbone (Ryan McClure). Proud grandfather of Cora, Josie, Michael, Kayla, Addly, Matthew, Maria, Lillyanna. Also survived by brother Joseph Carbone Jr, sister Karen Carbone Mercurie, and Mother to his children and dear friend Julie (Charles) Pratt. Robert leaves behind many adored nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Robert was preceded in death by his brother John, and parents Joseph and Doloris.

Robert was born in Camden, New Jersey on April 27th 1955. While growing up in Cherry Hill he spent many days admiring the horses at the Garden State Race Track. He also enjoyed spending time with his Grandma Josephine (who always snuck him extra meatballs).  Following his graduation from Cherry Hill High School West in 1973, Robert traveled to the various Tri State area race tracks to work as a horse trainer.  His dream of working with horses eventually led him to Florida to work at the Sarasota and Hialeah race tracks. While horses were Robert's passion, his first love was always his family and after several years of traveling he returned to Cherry Hill to be with them.

Robert went from fast horses to fast cars.  After returning to Cherry Hill he began working in the automobile industry.  Shortly afterwards he met Julie and they married in 1981.  Although the union was not permanent, they made a strong co-parenting team for their loving children. The two remained lifelong friends and Julie acted as his in-home caregiver over the past year.

Robert spent the majority of his life in the Cherry Hill area and retired in 2020 after more than three decades in the auto sales industry. Robert was well known in the car business for his kind and caring nature. Robert was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and enjoyed watching and wagering on horse races. Most of all, Robert cherished spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and will always lovingly be referred to as Pop Pop Bone.

On July 4th 2021 Robert suffered a massive stroke from which he never fully recovered. In the weeks shortly after his stroke, Robert couldn't remember simple tasks and concepts that most of us take for granted. He didn't know what car keys were or what money was, despite having worked in the car business for the past three decades. What he did remember was his family, his friends, and love. Those were the most important things to him and even when the stroke had robbed him of so much, the love remained. Perhaps that is one lesson we can all take from Robert's journey. Once all the glitz and  glamour is stripped away, once the "fluff" (as he called it) was removed, love remained. May we all live our lives as Robert did in his final year, forget about the jobs, the money, the "fluff"; and focus on the love, the endless and eternal love.

In lieu of funeral services, family and friends can expect a celebration of life to take place in September.

Donations in Robert's memory can be made to the Brain Research Foundation. The BRFs mission is to improve lives through new treatments and cures for all neurological disorders, including strokes.
