Chaffin
Sep 15, 1947 — May 22, 2018
Marilyn A Chaffin
Marilyn A Chaffin Age 70 of Williamstown,N.J. passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday May 22,2018 after a long battle with cancer. She was born to James and Helen Ryan, by whom she is predeceased, and raised in Brooklyn,NY. Marilyn worked for the Port Authority in 1965, where she met her beloved husband, Frank. They married in 1966 and lived in Arizona for many years before returning to N.J., residing in Barnegat. She was predeceased by her husband in 1984.
Marilyn is survived by her beloved children: her daughter Beth Ann and son-in-law Rick, with whom she resided; Tracy Ann, with whom she also resided, and Shannon Lee; her Grand Children Tanya & David, Zachary & Emily; Caden; Billy and Jimmy. Her Greatest loves in her life-Great Grandchildren, Nicholas; Cole; Adilyn; Jaxon, Matthew; RJ and Liam. She was predeceased by her first grandson, her heart, Frankie who died following his battle with cancer in 1991. Marilyn was also predeceased by her brothers and sister: Eddie; Jimmy; Billy and Colleen; her nephew Frankie and most recently her loving brother in law Frank, who she loved and missed dearly. She is survived by her only remaining sibling, her beloved sister Patty, and sister in law Betty, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Her best friend Margie was her rock and support for 39 years. Through her children, grandchildren and friends over the years she gained more and more kids and grandkids who she considered her own, and lovingly called them all family by choice. Marilyn became known by many names over the years, Mama, Mom C, Grandma, Nan, Mad Dog, Mags, Mar, Aunt, Sister and Mom, as well as a few she loved but we can't mention, and her favorite-Merls.
Marilyn worked as a medical assistant for many years. While working, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Being the strongest woman her friends and family knew, she continued working through her treatments daily. She was declared cancer free in 2010 for two years, but was diagnosed once again in 2012. She retired and moved in with her daughter, son in law and grandchildren so she could relax, fight and enjoy more time with her family & friends. She battled daily with dignity, grace and much strength till the end. Throughout her battle over the last few years, she set milestones to surpass to keep her going; the births of each great grandchild, watching her grandson Zach marry his love Emily, the birth of her only great granddaughter Adalyn Grace Marilyn, who was named after her, and definitely got her sassy side. Most recently, the marriage of her granddaughter Tanya to her love David, and the subsequent birth of her great grandson, Jaxon.
Marilyn was an avid supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles, all Law Enforcement, and The Special Olympics of N.J., to which she involved herself in memory of her beloved grandson, Frankie. She volunteered at the Annual Polar Bear Plunge in Point Pleasant and The Torch Run on LBI, riding on the back of the truck and cheering on the runners while handing out water and oranges for the 18 mile run. She attended the Opening Ceremonies in Trenton and cheered on the Athletes and Officers with such excitement and joy. She also volunteered at The Annual Toy Run. She was on the Ladies Auxiliary, and during holidays cooked more than what her family needed, opening her home to those who were working and couldn't be home with their families so that they could enjoy a meal, something to drink and dessert. Helping others is what she was known for. She met many people throughout her years of helping others and volunteering who she formed lifelong relationships with, and again many became part of her family.
Marilyn was truly an angel on Earth. Our Mother and Nanny was loved by so many and she will be missed by all. May she Rest In Peace, be free, and enjoy her family and friends she is reunited with above, all while watching over those of us she left behind here on Earth. We miss you, love you and will forever hold the memories you gave us in our hearts.
The family will announce A Celebration of life Mass after arrangements are made. In lieu of flowers we ask that you please donate in the memory of her grandson Frankie Henshaw to : Committee to benefit the children at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children 160 E.
