John E.
Jorgensen
Jan 21, 1946 — Apr 4, 2026
Glassboro
John Erling Jorgensen of Glassboro, NJ passed peacefully into his eternal rest at home while in hospice care on April 4, 2026.
John was the husband of Donna W. Jorgensen to whom he was married for nearly 58 years, and father to Karen (Curtis) Price and Mark (Richelle) Jorgensen. He also leaves his beloved grandson, Cole J. Price. He is also survived by his brother, Eric L. Jorgensen, and sisters Lynn E. Jorgensen and Gail A. Leman, nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Eric L. and Ellen F. Jorgensen.
A love of sports led him to a 32 year career as a health and physical education teacher and coach at Pottsgrove Intermediate School, Pottstown, PA. He excelled at football and track and field while in school, but his love of sports continued throughout his life. He was an avid bowler for most of his life.
He was a strong swimmer, and in younger, stronger days would swim across the cove at Lake Wallenpaupack where he enjoyed days on the water piloting his boat to provide water skiing and tubing experiences for the entire family and many friends. For more peaceful moments on the water, John found pleasure in kayaking waterways in PA, NJ, NY, NC, and SC. When winter set in, he traded water skis for snow skis and loved nothing more than a run down a trail with fresh powder, teaching Donna, Karen, Mark, and Cole, and nieces and nephews to love being on the slopes as well although Cole opted to become a snowboarder rather than skier. John had fond memories of trips to ski at Heavenly and Breckenridge with his best friend and brother-in-law Richard Olsen.
When extra muscle was needed, he lent a hand coaching Karen's gymnastic team, and he took great pleasure in watching her excel as a gymnast at the University of Pittsburgh. He and Mark enrolled in Tang Soo Do martial arts classes, and they trained together for many years until John's physical limitations forced him to stop his training after he had achieved a rank of second degree Black Belt. John took great pride in watching Mark progress through the ranks to seventh degree Black Belt while owning his own karate schools with wife, Rikki and shepherding many others in their love of martial arts.
No formal services are planned by the family at this time, but a celebration of John's life will be held during the summer at his happy place, Lake Wallenpaupack, PA. Family and friends will be invited to attend when a date and time have been set.
Should anyone wish to do so, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to one of two scholarships that support higher education for deserving students.
