Eula M Howard

September 12, 1935 – October 10, 2022

Eula M. Howard of Glassboro NJ passed away on October 10, 2022 at the age of 87.

Eula Mae Howard was the 11th of 15 children born to Johnnie and Matilda Wiggs on September 12th, 1935 in Johnson County N.C. where she resided and was educated until she left for New York in 1953. This is where she met and married Johnny Lewis. Their marriage was dissolved in1958. Sometime later she met and married Joseph Howard. They were happily married for 40 years until Joseph passed away in April of 2002.Eula worked for some years at a major New York hotel before she secured a position with Bell Telephone/ Verizon. She enjoyed working there until she retired 33 years later. Always spiritually inclined, she never belonged to any religious denomination, but in 1959 she was called on by Jehovah's Witnesses. She always listened to them, accepted literature and studied and attended meetings for a brief period. It was in 1970 that she again accepted a bible study and in 1971 she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized in February of that year. She served in the Linwood Congregation in Brooklyn for 15 years till she and Joseph moved to South Jersey in 1986 where she served Jehovah faithfully in the Turnersville Congregation until her death on October 10, 2022. She passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side after a long battle with cancer.

In Brooklyn, she was known for her warm hospitality. She was an excellent cook and always had an open heart and home for both her extended family and her spiritual family. No matter who you were, she and Mr Howard-affectionately known to everyone as "Pat"- just had a way of making you feel like family when in their home. Eula had a special fondness and connection with young people. She always made room to include them in her social gatherings, activities and travels. She was an affectionate and wise "Grandma", "Gram", and "GiGi" to her favorite young people, her grandchildren and great grandchildren just as she was always the loving "Mommy", "Mom" and "Ma" as well as a tower of support to her three children. She learned to drive somewhat late in life and discovered that she loved driving. She was well traveled. Driving cross country with her sister and her family helping her brother-in-law with the driving shortly after getting her license. She attended several International Conventions in Hawaii, Canada and 4 different states. In both congregations she rarely missed a meeting and was faithful in the ministry. People loved being around Eula. She had a way of putting people at ease. She was the epitome of the "quiet and mild spirit ", (1Peter 3:3,4) always upbuilding, always encouraging and even in pain she never complained. She loved being with the friends and was genuinely appreciative of the love, support and respect given to her especially at the meetings and in the ministry.

In contrast to her sweet and gentle disposition, Eula was strong in faith and strong in spirit. She survived 12 of her siblings, several serious surgeries and 4 bouts of cancer. Always hoping in Jehovah and his promise of a beautiful future in a paradise earth without the burden of sickness, suffering and death. (Isaiah 33:24, Revelation 21:3,4) Toward the end of her fight for life, her hope in the resurrection was unfailing. Surely, all of us look forward to the time when we can greet Eula at her resurrection and serve our Heavenly Father together with her - forever. (John 11:25) To all of our extended family and friends during this time of grief: for the lovely cards, beautiful flowers, wonderful fruit baskets, generous monetary gifts, expressions of comfort, condolences, love and encouragement. For the many thoughtful phone calls but, above all your many prayers - so many, many heartfelt thanks from Eula's loving immediate family: Her Sisters: Delores and Maddie Her Children: Margaret, Reginald, John Jr.(deceased) Her Grandchildren and great-grandchildren:Dawn, Nikki(Michael), Bekah(Symone & Jayden), Kimberly(deceased), Adbelali(Asia, Sumaya & Suhayb), Brandon, John III(Zamya), Monique(Meiya, Ty'Aye & Taji) Also, her in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and all of their families. During Mom's illness, due to CoVid, outside assistance was extremely limited, but you friends and family came through and stepped up in the only ways available to you at the time: cards, calls, outside visits on the steps and in the driveway, many meals, snow removal, watchful eyes and sitting with Mom when I had to go out and all the offers of " anything I can do just call", invites to ZOOM for theocratic and fun events - for all of it…….our hearts are filled with so much gratitude and so was Moms'. Thank you is not enough for the entire wonderful and genuinely caring staff at Holy Redeemer Hospice Care and the Doctors and caretakers at Cooper Hospital.

At Eula's request there will be no Memorial Service
