Dorothy J. Burdey (nee Milikovsky)
December 25, 1934 - July 1, 2021
Dorothy ('Dolly') was born on Dec. 25, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of Samuel and Bertha ('Granny') Milikovsky, along with her beloved sister Marie Elena ('Lee'). She graduated Camden Catholic High School and soon after married the love her life, John J. ('Whitey') Burdey in September 1953, and celebrated 66 years together until his death in 2020.
Dolly was a treasure to all who knew her. She loved horses and harness racing in particular, spending time at the beach, trips to the casino, and gambling on pretty much anything, but most of all she had an unconditional love for her children and family. She was known for her many 'Dollisms' – such as, charity begins at home; always wear white pants in the summer; and most importantly, family comes first.
She was the family cheerleader, instilling in her children a sense of confidence and a desire to always strive for better. She made every visitor to her home feel welcome and wanted. Dolly loved a good time and always knew how to make an entrance. She also enjoyed going to Mass, and she and Whitey were active in the Knights of Columbus #3532.
Favorite memories of Dolly include dancing the Golden Slipper with Aunt Pat, always trying hard (but failing miserably) to keep a secret, Cold Duck champagne for any occasion, and time spent taking care of her precious Billy.
She is survived by her children John (Toni), Donna (Rich), and Lorraine (Syl), as well as her
sister Lee Ristagno, her beloved niece Marie Elena (Jimmy), 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, on August 3, 2021. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. and Mass will begin at 11:00.
