Obituary

Diane Marie Kirkland

Sunrise September 18,1954 - Sunset June 4, 2021

Diane Marie Kirkland of Phila. Pa passed away on June 4, 2021 at the age of 66.

Diane Marie Kirkland was the second oldest daughter of five girls born on September 18, 1954 to Martha and Roosevelt Jones. Her mother, Martha, studied to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses while Diane and her sisters were young, and Martha made sure that her girls had a strong foundation in the truth.   With that type of spiritual upbringing, it is no wonder that Diane was baptized on June 15, 1968. In addition to spiritual activities, Diane also enjoyed wholesome association, having and attending multiple gatherings. She and her sisters, Margarite, Linda, Annette, and Denise were affectionately known all over as the Jones Sisters or the Jones Girls.

Diane graduated from Camden High School in June 1972. After getting a business certification from Lincoln Technical Institute, Diane worked as a medical billing clerk at CAMcare for 41 years, retiring in 2019.

Diane was also known to all as a classy dresser who loved to shop for clothes, shoes, perfume and jewelry. Many who knew her wondered if she ever wore the same thing twice. Diane loved to dance and she loved to sew. Diane was very outgoing and made many lifelong friends in the South Camden Congregation, the Germantown Congregation and wherever she visited or travelled.

She married one of those friends, James Norwood, on October 23, 1982.  Diane and James loved to travel, entertain and enjoy association with not only friends and family, but all those they met. Diane picked up some of James' recipes, made them her own, and began to love cooking. Their house was open to everyone…and there was always good food and good company.  Sadly, James passed away on August 30, 2004.

After a few years of being single, travelling, and hanging out (and shopping) with the girls, Diane found love again and married Charles Kirkland on June 16, 2018. They enjoyed a few trips together before she got sick.  A devoted husband, Charles loyally stuck by her side during her treatments and illness, visiting her everyday when she was in the hospital.

She remained faithful to Jehovah, keeping in mind that everything was in His hands, and that he would remember her for trusting in him and remaining loyal to the end.

Diane is predeceased by her parents, Martha and Roosevelt Jones, and her first husband, James Norwood. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Kirkland; stepsons Charles Kirkland Jr. (Gladys) and their daughters Arielle and Marissa, Mark Kirkland, and Derrick Kirkland; sisters Margarite, Annette and Denise Jones; Linda (Charles) Clark, niece Lakisha "Baby Girl" Rogers (Robert); Nephew Andre "Dre" Clark (Brittany); Great-nephews Corbin and Cameron Rogers and great-niece Aniya Clark, who affectionately always called her Auntie Boo Boo; special friends
Libby Boyd, Cheryl Ingram, Dave and Mary Mitchell, as well as a host of family and lifelong and new friends too numerous to name.
In Appreciation The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, support, kind and caring words, phone calls, texts and cards during this difficult time.
